Our Story
Ruth & Joanna was founded in 2012 by Susanne Lundberg with a vision of bringing some glam and elegance to the interior scene of Scandinavia. After a few years as an interior blogger, editor and stylist Susanne thought something was missing in the market. She wanted to create furniture in which maximalistic materials meet minimalistic design, the best of both worlds.
The name came naturally; Ruth and Joanna are the names of her two grandmothers and is a celebration of their own unique style and attitudes. Ruth, who was born and raised in the north of Sweden, symbolizes the minimalistic Scandinavian side of the brand and Joanna, who comes from Ukraine, stands for the bolder and more maximalistic part.
In August 2014, Ruth & Joanna launched its first collection of furniture, with coffee- and sidetables made of a subtile mix of gold leaf finish and mirror glass. In 2016 the art-deco inspired “Fiona Collection” was launched which consists of an interesting combination of velvet and brass. After that, several popular collections have been introduced such as the Bonham, Erin, Mercer and Delano collection.
All pieces are designed by Susanne herself and her aim is that all pieces should have an elegant and classic design which now is the very essence of the brand. One of her signums is to combine different materials in her pieces and she fancy materials like walnut, brass, marble and velvet in particular. Almost all pieces are named after people she has met or places she has been to during the existence of the brand. Ruth & Joanna´s collection is growing continuously and consists of everything from sofas, daybeds and tables to leather trays, table lamps and wall mirrors.
Our Vision
Ruth & Joanna’s vision is to create pieces with maximalist materials but with a minimalistic design. To create interior details that will make any room pop and make it more interesting. To create something of value and a piece that will last forever and become something that its owner cherishes. To add some glamour to homes and to make the atmosphere of a room a little more elegant and chic.
Our Collection
The Ruth & Joanna furniture collection involves bigger furniture like sofas and tables but also smaller details that set the mood of a room, like pillows and trays. Combining materials like brass, marble, walnut, glass, and velvet, the products have their own unique style and finish. News are added to the collection gradually to always make sure that the next product is a natural extension of the brand´s core design values.
